Sins

I spent 4 hours today writing an interpretation of a norwegian short-story named "Peparkorn" (Peppercorn in english, if you didn't figure it out. Which you should have been able to). It's about a little girl who steals a gingerbread man hanging on the christmas tree. I interpreted it to be about the sins of humanity, and drew a line between this text and the fall of man, written in the bible. Maybe I went a bit too far on that one..X3 But when I write something, it's either to the tip of the edge, or way over it!

And, strangely enough, I'm watching this anime called "Casshern Sins" too. I'm a bit behind right now (only episode 10 out of 21), and it's just as weird as I remember it. Graphics are nice though...about the only thing that makes me still watch it. Oh, and the promise that there will be lots of fighting in the next few episodes xD

Wikipedia about sins:

◘The question of whether or not an act must be intentional to be sinful.
◘The idea that one's conscience should produce guilt for a conscious act of sin.

Well, what if I wouldn't feel guilt about an act of sin, unless I committed it by accident? See, if I had decided to sin (any kind of sin), I would most likely do it without hesitating, and without showing any regret of doing it afterwards. Like saying "That was my decicion, nothing to do about it now anyways". While, if I accidently happened to do something that would hurt others around me, I'd regret it alot, or imagine how it could've been done differently.

But that's just me. And don't you go thinking I wouldn't hesitate to hurt you at any time. It was merely a statement that, in real life, would've depended on a lot of things. It would take an extreme situation to make me do extreme things like that. Goes for all humans, actually. Extreme situations makes us capable of doing things they couldn't ever imagine themselves doing before that particular situation. Like the mom who lifted the entire car when her little boy was trapped underneath it. She broke her back in 3 or 5 places, can't really remember. But hey, she saved her boy! That should give a few pluses in her karma-bank to do some sins when she recovers (=

  1. Interesting thoughts. The general definition of "sin" in our culture is determined by Christianity, however, which leads to the question whether it makes any sense to refrain from "sinful" behavior if one is not Christian. Ethics are not absolute, and I could think of a situation in which anything the Bible calls a sin could be considered a virtue. There is no use in feeling guilt when one has sinned if one does not consider the institute that has deemed this behavior as "sinful" (in this case, the Bible) as truthful. Take the case of the little girl stealing a gingerbread man; is she really hurting anyone? Would it still be sinful if she hadn't eaten anything in days? There are many ways to hurt people without actually committing a sin, and there are ways of committing sins without actually hurting people (and if you agree with me that there is no Christian God, why would you feel any guilt if you're not hurting anyone?). I personally believe that the ethics of the Bible no longer make sense in these modern times but it's certainly interesting to philosophize about :3 I actually have an ethics test in a few days. Which I should really start studying for. >< Miff.

    So long!
